Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Altar & Rosary Society of Sacred Heart of Jesus would like all to celebrate Our Lady’s Birthday with us. Each person is asked to bring a single, long stem rose to 4 PM Mass or 8:30 AM Mass the weekend of September 6-7. Vases filled with water will be placed in front of Our Lady’s statue in the sanctuary.

Why roses? White roses stand for her joys; red for her sorrows, and yellow for her glories. Coelius Sedulius, a Christian poet of the 5th century, referred to Mary as a "rose among thorns." Known as the “queen of flowers,” the rose represents Mary as the Queen of Heaven.
