To honor the Blessed Virgin Mary's request for First Saturday Devotion, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and Diocesan Shrine offers up the powerful prayer of The Rosary on the first Saturday of each month after the 8 AM Mass.
We also display relics from our vast collection for veneration on First Saturdays. On June 7, Veneration of Saints' Relics will take place from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. This is a time change to accommodate Chesterton Academy's graduation.
We will present these relics on June 7:
St. Anthony of Padua, Priest and Doctor of the Church (feast day June 6; Franciscan friar; patron saint of lost items, sailors, and travelers,)
Blessed Anna M. Taigi (feast day June 9; life of total self-giving as a wife, mother and friend of Our Lord; a source of consolation during difficult times)
St. Aloysius Gonzaga (feast day June 21; died of plague at 23 while caring for the sick)
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque ( feast day October 16; patron saint of devotees of the Sacred Heart)
St. Gertrude the Great (feast day November 16; great devotion to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord in His Passion and in the Blessed Eucharist and a strong love for the Blessed Virgin Mary)
We will return to our normal veneration schedule in July; a new set of saints' relics will be displayed after 8 AM Mass until Noon.
